“I’m so glad you’re home. I’ve missed you.” exclaimed Mary as she put her arms around Janet and hugged her. I missed you too, said Janet “Come in,” said Mary, “and see what I have for you”. As she entered her home, Janet heard the crackling fire in her fireplace, saw her beautiful flowers on the table, and heard her favorite music. Was that coffee she smelled? Yes it was coffee and she loved to have a cup at this time of day. She looked down at Trig as she felt her cat rubbing against her leg. Now, she was home being greeted with care and love. She knew that she was going to go to bed early and sleep very soundly tonight
Janet owned a bed and breakfast inn located in Grass Valley where she had lived for 60 years. She knew everyone and where they lived. Now that she was 82 years old, she no longer drove but when she was being driven to and from different sites she talked about all the people in each house. She would tell stories about them and sometimes she would laugh out loud as she remembered things that had happened over the years.
Janet’s husband died last year and now she needed caregivers to be with her 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Mary is one of her caregivers. Mary was so excited to see her today because Janet had just returned from visiting her younger sister. Janet was very close to her sister Sally, but had not been able to see Sally since her husband’s death. Janet had so many health problems that it seemed like a pipe dream that she would be able to go and visit Sally in Portland Oregon. What had made the trip so difficult for Janet was that soon after her husband died, she had had a heart attack. Now she was very weak, and was on oxygen.
She had wanted to make this trip for a long time, but when she learned that Sally’s son would be in Sacramento for a few days on business, she began to think that her desire to see her sister might be possible. What if she could fly to Portland with Sally’s son and he could drive her to her sister’s home. Just a day with Sally would be all she would need .
Flying was a big challenge for her, but All For You Home Care was willing to do whatever it took so that she could go to Portland to see Sally. All For You Home Care is the agency that provides services for Janet so she can live at home instead of having to go to a facility. They hire Mary and all of the other caregivers who work with Janet.
The idea of this trip had come up so quickly that all of the arrangements had to be done in 2 days. This was the only time that Sally’s son would be able to help Janet by flying with her to Portland. When they heard about this opportunity, All For You Home Care went into action. They told Janet that they would do whatever it took for her to visit her sister.
The first step was getting a ticket on the same flight with Sally’s son. Luckily there was room on the flight. Even so, the airline required a lot more before they would let her board the plane.
The second step was getting a letter from her doctor stating that she could fly and getting the doctor to prescribe a particular kind of oxygen for Janet. It was Friday, and her doctor would be leaving his office soon. They would have to reach him as quickly as possible.
The third step was helping her get ready for her trip to Portland. Even though she was only going to be gone for one night, she had so many things she wanted to do to prepare for the trip.
Fourth, there was one final step to do before she could make her trip to visit her sister, and this would be the hardest to arrange. Even though she had her nephew to fly with her on the flight to Portland, she did not know how she could get back to the Sacramento airport by herself.
The director of All for You Home Care started to work on how to do this final step. He knew that he could have one of Janet’s caregivers fly up to Portland to meet her in the airport and fly home with her. But he also knew that he would never sleep until he knew she was safely home. He was concerned about her health and well being. What if they got lost in the airport? What if she got sick on the plane? What if they missed her plane? So, he decided that he personally wanted to fly up to Portland and escort her back home. Finally, everything was arranged.
All went without a hitch! Janet flew to Portland where she was able to visit her sister. When the time came to leave, she was relaxed and ready to return to her own home. Everything was all arranged and she could count on the people from All For You Home Care to make things easy for her. Now home, her caregiver Mary was there to greet her and welcome her with care.
